Urban challenge in Kisumu

In the end of September Intervolve participated in a work week of the Urban Matters project in Kisumu in Kenya.

In the Manyatta area in this city live about 65,000 people and the biggest problem is water: water supply, drainage and general bad standard of infrastructure. There are a lot of problems with flooding after heavy rains. Together with the local authorities and civil organisations these problems have been discussed and first moves have been done to come to an overall approach. Intervolve sees possibilities in improving the housing situation by supporting the saving and credit cooperatives development in relation to training, income generating activities as well as institutional set up of the housing cooperative.

You can find pictures of the area in our image database.
