The company
Van der Leij Groep bv is a renowned building company from the north of Amsterdam. It is the well trusted, multi-purpose partner of housing cooperations, (local) governments, institutional financiers and other property owners who want to keep their real estate in good condition. The workers are active all over the western part of the Netherlands. Van der Leij’s so called integrated quality control system guarantees sustainable construction and a well checked construction process.
The director of this company, Mr Rob van der Leij founded Van der Leij Habitat (later Intervolve Foundation) in 1996. Earlier in 1987 Mr van der Leij already implemented a redevelopment project in Eluru (Andrha Pradesh, India). This project was the base for the integrated approach which characterises Intervolve’s work now.

 

The cooperation with Intervolve
Van der Leij Groep B.V. states that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is more than the traditional way of running a business. To express its aims for CSR Van der Leij Group contributes in various ways (financially, workers) to Intervolve’s activities.

 

The results
The cooperation already exists since 1996 and the results are therefore numerous. In 1997 Intervolve started the High Return Housing Project in Buffalo City (South Africa). This resulted in Haven Hills living area and the establishment of Own Haven Housing Association which not only manages the maintenance of the rented houses, but also builds new houses. In 2005 Intervolve started, together with Dutch and South African partners, the redevelopment of Duncan Village, which was a slum area next to Haven Hills with 100,000 inhabitants.
The third project started in Awassa (Ethiopia), also in 2005. And in 2008 was the start off a redevelopment project in Douala in Cameroon.

Rob van der Leij is a true ambassador for all Intervolve’s projects and he connects all interested parties.
